Monday 6.15 – 7.15pm                                                                           IRISH LANGUAGE LEVEL 1B
This class is for those who have a basic knowledge of Irish, designed to develop knowledge acquired in Level 1A. In this class, you will develop your vocabulary & knowledge of Irish word & sentence structure. You will learn how to hold basic conversations.

Monday 7.30 – 8.30pm                                                                           IRISH LANGUAGE LEVEL 2A
This class is for those who already have a firm grasp of the basics of the Irish language. It consolidates knowledge acquired in Level 1, beginning to incorporate some grammatical techniques to enable you to develop greater variety & independence in your use of the language. You will learn how to use Irish verbs, how to recognise different types of noun and how to form plurals.

Tuesday 7 – 8pm                                                                                    KEEP FIT CEILI

An exercise class suitable for all levels, based on movement to music. No expertise in Irish dance is required. Tutor Roisin O’Donnell is the former lead dancer in Lord of the Dance.

Tuesday 8 – 10pm                                                                                 SET DANCE

Traditional style, Irish formal dance; beginners always welcome.

Wednesday 7 – 8:30pm                    BOOK CLUB (MONTHLY) : EXPLORING IRISH LITERATURE

Works by Irish authors are discussed in a friendly & informal environment. Alongside the main book club, we are also reading Ulysses on a rolling basis. Occasional screenings of Irish films are enjoyed by our members. Join mailing list or check website for each month’s date.

Wednesday 6.15 – 7.15PM                                                                  IRISH LANGUAGE LEVEL 1A
This is a relaxed introduction to the Irish language for those unfamiliar with it. You will cover pronunciation, the Irish alphabet, numbers & introductory phrases. You will learn some basic grammar to enable you to adapt phrases to your own needs. You will also examine the structure of Irish place names & family names, in relation to the modern language, & set the modern language in its historical context. No prior knowledge of Irish or experience of language-learning is assumed.

Thursday 7 – 8pm                                                      IRISH MUSIC (Beginners & Improvers)

Bring your fiddle, tin whistle, accordion or bodhran … we aim to have participants playing tunes in a few weeks. Tutor Tony Corcoran holds the TTCT qualification from the Irish Department of Education, and has over 30 years experience as a teacher.

Thursday 7 – 8:30 pm                                                         TRACE YOUR IRISH ANCESTRY

New members always welcome to this popular class led by Gofraidh O’Dubhthaigh.

These eight week classes end on 28th  November 2015.

There is a week’s break during the Tyneside Irish Festival w/b 19th October

Starting Wednesday 18th November 2015, THE ROAD TO THE RISING. This FREE course explores the historical, literary & political context of the Rising, examines the key events and individuals who shaped it and reflects upon its consequences, both then and now. Guest lecturers from UK & Irish universities will lead each session, held between 18 November – 9 December 2015 and 20 January – 10 February 2016.
